Canon ImagePROGRAF PRO-1000 Review 2025 | Some Quick Background
What is the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000?
Anyone who has experience with printers will tell you that you need to have a good printer if you want to produce high-quality prints at home. It doesn’t matter if you want to produce photographic prints or documents, the key is to find a quality printer. The printers’ market, however, is flooded with printers from different brands. After perusing through different Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 reviews, it is clear that some deliver exemplary prints while others are low quality.
Fortunately, Canon introduced the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000, which is a single-function A2 printer. It uses pigment inks to enhance longevity and lightfastness. After all, the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 is the successor to the Canon iPF5100, which was the first 17-inch Canon printer in years.

The printer is both a pro-consumer and professional-level fine art/photo
However, before you venture into the market to get this printer, make sure you set a budget. Why? That’s because this home printer falls on the higher price range. If you ask me and any other person who has done a Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 review, that’s a small price to pay considering the exemplary quality it delivers.

The Good
Incredible Color Gamut
The Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 includes 11 ink cartridges and a Chroma Optimizer, which work to make the image details and colors pop. This wide color range combines with the printer’s Photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering tech to produce high-resolution images of up to 4,800 x 2,400 dots per inch (dpi).
What all that adds up to is a more complete color range. Your photos will have more vibrant colors and denser blacks.
Also, the black ink for this printer is matte-black, which looks much better for high-quality prints.
Multiple Connectivity Options
The Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 comes with several connectivity options. You have the option to use Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or USB to move your files. From the numerous Canon, imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 reviews that I came across, these options are all you need to print photos. However, the printer doesn’t come with Near Field Communication or Wi-Fi Direct. But I don’t think that’s a disadvantage because printing photos from your smartphone with the Canon PRO-1000 is much easier.
Also, this printer supports Wireless PictBridge. What does this mean for you? It means that you can print from your Canon digital camera as long as it is compatible. This takes a lot of the work out of quick photo printing.
Simple Setup
Fortunately, there’s no complicated process for installing the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000. This is because the manufacturer makes sure to include detailed instructions in the box. So, here’s how you go about it.
First, you need to fix the ink tanks. You’ll see a compartment under the output tray with 12 slots for the ink. Each bay is color-coded to make sure you install the ink correctly. Afterward, you need to install the print head, whose compartment is under the top cover.
Once you have set the ink tanks, you’ll notice a message pop up on the LCD screen. After a couple of minutes, another message will also appear. Here, you’re required to load an MP-101 paper in the rear tray and press OK. Make sure to input the paper as per the instructions provided. The purpose of this paper is to aid with the head alignment test.
Once the test is completed successfully, you can now choose your preferred connectivity method. If you’re a Windows user, you need to install the printer’s software and drivers from the provided CD. If you’re a Mac user, however, you’ll need to download the drivers and software at http://canon.com.ijsetup/.
When you are all done, you need to follow the step-by-step process to install the software. The process should only take a couple of minutes, and you’re good to go.
Elite Perfomance
For starters, you need to know that the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 is not meant for printing documents. Most Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 reviews maintain that the printer performs much better and faster if you use it to produce photographic prints. I put it to the test and tried to print some documents. To my disappointment, the printer took exceptionally long to print an MS Word page – it took about a minute.
However, this was different when it came to printing photos. When I tested it for this Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 review, it printed relatively faster even in a high-quality setting. You might also be impressed by the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000’s anti-clogging technology. Canon has designed this printer with a tubular ink delivery system, which improves the print speeds while minimizing the likelihood of clogging.

Large Format Photo Prints
Lastly, this printer is capable of producing incredible photo prints in a wide range of sizes. From 4×6” to 17×22”, and everything in between, you can make professional-quality photos and art prints. Note: this printer doesn’t create borderless prints, so plan your trim size accordingly.
The Bad
Bulky
The printer weighs 70.5 pounds, which to me, is considerably bulky. Canon has made lighter models previously. The printer also measures 17 x 28.5 x 11.2 inches, which is relatively large. These measurements, however, are attained when the output and input trays are extended.
No Roll Stock
The Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 is an outstanding printer. However, like most electronic gadgets, it also has its downsides, and I found a couple while doing the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 review.
First, the printer does not have a roll-paper option. This is a feature that you’d expect to find in large printers such as the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000, but this Canon model doesn’t include it.
Expensive
Moreover, the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 is quite expensive to acquire. It also has a higher operating cost as compared to its competition, the Epson P800.
From the available Canon, imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 reviews, most users feel that Canon would have done better if they tried to match their competitors’ operation costs. A good example of how the PRO-1000 keeps its running costs high is the fact that you have to replace 11 cartridges. Those ink costs add up quickly, but that is the price you pay for quality.
ImagePROGRAF PRO-1000 Review 2025 | The Bottom line
From this Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 review and the performance and design of this printer, you can tell that it’s best suited for printing photos. If you want to print documents, you will do much better with a different printer.
With that out of the way, it is evident that this printer comes with plenty of good. It has an anti-clogging system and an air feeding system that prevents clogging and allows accurate ink placement respectively. Better yet, the printer has a broader color gamut to improve image clarity and color reproduction. Before settling on it, however, note that the PRO-1000 falls in the higher price range.
The Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 is probably the best photo printer on the consumer market. If you need professional-quality photos or art prints, this is the printer for you.

Great comments, they are among a lot read, but have given me a clearer or more detailed info in layman’s understanding. I am still trying to understand Canon’s Equipment difference between the ImagePrograph & Pixma Pro-1000… which is newer or more upto date in it’s technology to interact with Smartphones, iPad, Laptops.
