When looking for a home photo printer, quality is king. Speed, efficiency, connectivity, all of these aspects are secondary. Quality of the prints is the primary concern. Bearing that in mind, here is a snapshot of the best color photo printers for home use in 2018.
For the first entry on this list, I’ve chosen the Epson Expression Photo HD XP-15000. This is the only wide-format printer on this list, creating borderless prints up to 13” x 19”. It also is the most professional level printer on this list.
The Epson Expression Photo HD XP-15000 uses a six-color cartridge system, which utilizes grey and red ink in addition to CMYK. This offers you a greater range of colors for creating vibrant prints. It features all of the connectivity features you’d expect from a home photo printer and isn’t much more expensive than the less professional models on this list.
If you are an aspiring photographer or artist, the Epson Expression Photo HP XP-15000 needs to be on your shortlist of printers. It is the best printer for home use for the aspiring artist or graphics professional.
The Canon TS9120 is one of the rare models of Canon printers that I recommend to my customers. This printer gives incredible photo and holds up better than most of their other models. It also won’t cost your first-born child in ink.
With a resolution of 4800 x 1200 dpi, the Canon TS9120 prints some of the sharpest photos you’ll get with a home photo printer. Ultimately, this is the best color photo printer for home use for customers who are looking for low cost and high quality.
Yeah, there’s going to be a lot of Epson on this list. Sorry, but they make some amazing photo printers. And scanners. Also, if you print on their photo paper, the prints will be water resistant. That’s awesome.
The Epson Expression Premium XP-7100 is a photo printers dream. It yields borderless prints up to 8” x 10”, with a professional print resolution. It has your typically amazing Epson flatbed scanner, and efficient ink cartridges for a home photo printer. Also, at 15 pages per minute, the Epson Expression Premium XP-7100 is the fastest printer so far on this list.
If you follow my reviews, then you already know how I feel about the HP ENVY Photo 7855. It’s dope.
High resolution, high-quality photos printed from a two-cartridge system is great. A separate paper tray for photo paper is great. Printing from a USB flash drive or SD memory card is great. What’s better than all of that? Instant Ink.
You can see my full Instant Ink review here. I use HP Instant Ink for document printing on my HP OfficeJet Pro 8720, and I love it. Instant Ink will almost certainly save you money.
You can check out my full HP ENVY Photo 7855 printer review here. In short, it’s the best color photo printer for home use for the price category, and arguably the industry.
Many may be surprised that this beats out the HP ENVY Photo 7855 for the top spot. However, if you read my full review on the Epson Expression Premium ET-7700, you’ll see why.
Over the course of several years, this printer will save you time and money, even over HP’s Instant Ink program. That, accompanied with Epson’s amazing print and scanning resolution and quality, is why the Epson Expression Premium ET-7700 is my choice for the best color photo printer for home use in 2018.
