How We Test Printers | Joe’s Methodology
We score printers on running cost, reliability, setup, and fit for home vs office. We do not run ISO lab charts unless a review says we did. We do not claim thousands of printers tested.
What we measure
Sticker price vs ink/toner yield, wireless setup friction, scan/copy if it is an all-in-one, and who should skip the machine (photo vs text, volume).
Ink and toner math
We prefer manufacturer page yields and street ink prices at publish time. Instant Ink and similar plans are called out separately. See Instant Ink vs EcoTank.
Scoring
Displayed scores are editorial (not a lab). A high score means a good fit for the stated job, not “best for everyone.”
Samples and affiliates
Some products are retail purchases; some are long-term use or spec-led. Affiliate links may appear after a verdict. Commissions do not change scores. Affiliate disclosure.
Updates
Guides are dated. We update when a pick is discontinued or a spec we relied on is wrong—not to chase commissions.
