HP ENVY Pro 6455 Review 2025

Historically, HP’s ENVY printers have been heavily geared toward home photo printing. Their most recent update to the series, the HP ENVY Photo 6455, rejects that model in favor of a more general all-in-one design.

In our HP ENVY Photo 6455 review, we are going to take a look at what about this printer works, and what definitely does not. Let’s get into it.

The Good

  • Dual-Band WIFI
  • Borderless Printing
  • All-In-One Capabilities

The Bad

  • Inefficient Ink
  • Jamming Problems
  • Slow Printing

The Bottom Line:

At first glance, the HP ENVY Pro 6455 is just another entry into one of the most popular photo printer lines on the market. It has fair printing quality, multiple connectivity options, and is heavily geared toward HP’s Instant Ink program. However, by changing course toward more of an all-in-one machine, HP may have alienated some photo printer users.

HP ENVY Pro 6455 Review 2025 | Some Quick Background

What is an HP ENVY printer?

ENVY is a line of printers from HP, going back years. After HP retired their Photosmart line, ENVY took over as the predominant photo printer series from HP. There’s been ups and downs, but ENVY printers have generally been of very high-quality, while also being affordable for home users.

What has changed in the HP ENVY series?

It appears that the ENVY line is no longer just for photo printers. While HP is still putting out OfficeJet printers, for the time being, they are trying to make ENVY printers for home office use as well, with their ENVY Pro series.

The Good

Dual-Band WIFI

If you aren’t a big “tech-person,” then you might not know what dual-band wifi is. Well, simply put, dual-band wifi is wifi that broadcasts at two frequencies, like separate radio channels.

Why is this a benefit? Because dual-band WIFIallows you to segment your wifi devices that are connected to your network. That means you can put your cell-phones, gaming consoles, and streaming devices on the 5ghz band, and the rest of your smart devices on the smaller band.

Even if you don’t have a lot of WIFI-enabled devices, it helps to keep devices with different purposes separate from each other.

Borderless Printing

For any avid photo printer, borderless printing is a must. If you are printing a 4”x6” photo, you don’t want a quarter-inch border on all sides. Your photo should cover the entire page.

The HP ENVY Photo 6455 prints borderless photos up to letter size. That means whether you are printing a photo to frame on the wall or cut out for a scrapbook, you don’t need to factor trimming waste into your project.

All-In-One Capabilities

All-in-one features are the type of things that you don’t notice when you don’t have them, but after you’ve had them, you can’t go without them.

The ability to scan multiple pages easily, run copies, and print documents efficiently is great for home users. This photo printer isn’t just for photos; it is a well-rounded home office printer.

Auto Document Feeder

The HP ENVY Photo 6455 has a 35-sheet auto document feeder. While you should still scan photos and images individually on the flatbed for the best results, the ADF allows you to scan a lot of sheets into a single file. So, if you have a 10-page document to initial and sign on every page, you can quickly scan it into your computer and send it off. No headache required.

Affordable

This is probably the biggest selling point of the HP ENVY Photo 6455. This printer is cheap. With an MSRP of $149.99 and the inevitability of sales, this printer is a great value-buy, despite its shortcomings.

HP Instant Ink Eligible

While we have soured a bit on our opinion of HP Instant Ink due to changes in the last year, it is still a great deal for steady printer users. Also, it is by far the best value for printing photos.

The XL ink cartridges for this printer cost $23.99 for black and $24.99 for the tricolor. For that price, you will be able to print 240 pages of black, and 200 pages of color prints. However, because photo printing takes about ten times as much ink, you will be able to print about twenty letter-sized photos for $49. That comes out to $2.45 per print, which is abysmal.

With HP Instant Ink, you can pay $2.99 per month to print 50 photos of the same size and quality. There are some things about the program we don’t love, but the cost is unbeatable.

The Bad

Inefficient Ink

As we said above, the HP 67 series of ink is terribly inefficient.

Even if you are only printing word documents, a twenty-four-dollar cartridge only prints 240 pages of black. That is ten cents per page, which is about as expensive as printer ink gets these days.

Also, 240 pages is a very low amount of pages for a modern cartridge. With a low capacity like that, a moderate user will be replacing cartridges all the time, which is just annoying.

Jamming Problems

For whatever reason, the customers at my store have had problems with the HP ENVY photo 6455 jamming.

It is normal for small photo printers to jam when using cardstock or heavier paper, but for standard letter stock, it is just strange. We believe it is a software issue, but we’ll talk more about that in a moment.

Slow Printing

Oh god, this printer is slow. Ten pages per minute of black, and seven of color. That’s already incredibly slow, and that is the speed for documents.

Depending on the photo quality and size, you could be waiting minutes for photo prints. If you want to print a lot of photos for a big project, we’d suggest looking at something better.

Software Problems

We don’t know what is going on at HP, but in the past few years, it seems like their printer software has really gone downhill.

The software you install on your computer is fine. Most people don’t use it much anyway. But the firmware, meaning the software on the printer, has gotten riddled with bugs and glitches.

We think this is why this printer has jamming issues. I have also had more customers than I’m comfortable with bringing the printer back completely bricked from a software glitch. They shouldn’t bring it back to the store, because HP support should take care of it. Speaking of that…

Poor Customer Support

We have not been shy that we think HP has some of the worst customer support on the market. They just don’t appear to have the customer’s best interest in mind. When a printer has been known to have problems, and the support is less than ideal, you need to really think about if this is the photo printer for you.

ENVY Pro 6455 Review 2025 | The Bottom line

There are a lot of great things about the HP ENVY Pro 6455. It has great print quality, it is compact, and it’s very affordable. However, there are a lot of things about this printer that should give customers pause.

This printer is slow. It is inefficient. It has quality control problems. These are big problems, and they can really disrupt your projects.

If your number one priority is a cheap photo printer, then the HP ENVY Pro 6455 is fine. Otherwise, it might be a good idea to look at other options.
